Responsibilities

The Position:

Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, owns the strategic direction of the organization’s research and long-term technology roadmap supporting new and sustaining In-Flight Entertainment and Connectivity platforms. Key leader who establishes overall direction and strategic initiatives for delivering and owning next generation technology capabilities that enable an agile, innovative product portfolio and roadmap in line with the vision of modular upgradability with integrated hardware and software approach. Drives both prototyping research concepts and Customer delivery of advanced product development while improving internal efficiencies and leveraging global resources. Leads global IFEC Platform Architecture, Aircraft System Engineering, Platform Software Development and R&D teams.

The salary wage range of $198,900 – $358,100 is just one component of Panasonic’s total package. The final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this role may be eligible for discretionary bonuses and incentives. The minimum hourly wage for this role will be the greater of the posted range, or minimum wage for the location where the employee will be working, subject to local minimum wage requirements.

IFEC Platform Strategy & Execution

  • Establishes overall direction and strategic initiatives for the Company’s IFEC platform and works within broad corporate objectives to define functional goals.
  • Defines and owns a tick-tock strategy for product development based on technology roadmap.
  • Develops and implements a clear and ambitious strategy for advanced technology aligned with the company’s vision and mission.
  • Develops innovative and evolving platform capabilities rooted in next generation passenger experiences and use cases, to align the roadmap in collaboration and alignment with global Product Management, Hardware, Software, Architecture, Data, and R&D teams.
  • Leads innovation by researching and executing IFEC Platform concepts across multiple disciplines aligned with regulatory, safety, and compliance standards.
  • Develops and implements agile processes for an innovation pipeline, collaborating with Product Management to identify landing zones and define long-term roadmaps.
  • Enhances product development capabilities, ensuring scalability and modular upgradability to meet long-term product life cycle needs.
  • Reduces time-to-market for both Proof of Concepts and Advanced Product Development by leveraging shift-left strategies and standardizing scalable and extensible platform architectures.
  • Implements and drives continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines to accelerate the development process and ensure timely delivery of products.

Leadership, Partnership, and Culture Development

  • Provides leadership and direction through multiple teams led by Director/Sr. Director-level management who have overall responsibility for the successful operation of assigned areas, including but not limited to global IFEC Platform Architecture, Aircraft System Engineering, Platform Software Development and R&D.
  • Initiates and maintains strategic and collaborative relationships with other senior and executive leadership including business unit leaders to understand avionics evolving customer and technology requirements, to create and deliver an ambitious multi-year platform innovation portfolio.
  • Fosters an innovation rich environment to develop and nurture best practices, continuous learning and improvement, proactive problem-solving, contingency planning, and risk awareness.
  • Leads by example in ethical behaviors and business practices; ensures a culture of compliance within the organization.
  • Conducts strategic workforce planning, including staff development and succession planning.
  • Clearly articulates the Company’s and Departments vision and direction that people can champion and follow.
  • Interacts with senior management to execute decisions, manage risk, and influence activities relating to the IFEC platform that effect the long-term Company viability.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For:

  • Proven experience, including in leadership roles, in technology and IP related innovation & incubation.
  • Proven experience in make vs buy decision making in a leadership role.
  • Proven experience in long in-service lifetime product development in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of emerging technologies and industry trends.
  • Strong experience in managing both Software and Hardware development.
  • Proven experience making data-driven decisions for resource allocation and project prioritization.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with proven track record of effective collaboration, relationship building, people management, and conflict resolution across global, multi-cultural teams in a highly matrixed environment.
  • Proven experience in fostering a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and risk management in a leadership role.
  • Excellent team leadership skills with strong experience attracting, retaining, and development talent. Consistently recognized as an influential leader.
  • Demonstrated advanced strategic thinking, project management, presentation, and problem-solving skills in a leadership role.
  • Proven ability to successfully influence and negotiate with internal and external customers in sensitive situations.
  • Ability to work and lead in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Strong ability to communicate and present, both written and verbally, technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders both internally and externally.
  • Proven ability in a leadership role to make decisions that have a major and measurable long-term impact on the success, failure, profitability, and growth of the Company.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or other technical degree. Advanced degree highly preferred.
  • 15+ years’ experience in technology product development
  • 10+ years of increasing managerial experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading global teams.
  • Relevant experience with Aircraft/Aerospace/Avionics Systems, In-Flight Entertainment and Connectivity Systems (IFEC), or related entertainment/connectivity platform delivery portfolios.
  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally 25% of time
