Overview

We are seeking an experienced CPA to lead the tax team in a non-traditional public accounting role. The Senior Tax Director will oversee the preparation and filing of individual, business, trust, and nonprofit tax returns, while collaborating with financial advisors to provide optimized tax strategies. This role includes internal financial oversight and provides the opportunity to participate in revenue sharing for any business brought to the firm-though business development is not a requirement.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, review, and file client tax returns (individual, business, trust, nonprofit, gift).
• Assist with amended/corrected tax filings.
• Develop and implement tax plans and withholding strategies.
• Collaborate with financial advisors to optimize client tax plans.
• Oversee internal financial operations, accounting, bookkeeping, and payroll.
• Conduct tax research, planning, and projections.
• Mentor and support junior CPA staff.
• Maintain and enhance tax preparation systems and automation tools.
• Communicate timelines and expectations with clients.
• Evaluate and improve internal processes throughout the year.
• Support family office tax return preparation as needed.

Qualifications

• Active CPA license in North Carolina (or eligible through reciprocity).
• 10+ years of experience in tax planning, preparation, and strategy.
• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Excellent communication and client interaction abilities.
• Proficiency in accounting software; preferred tools include CCH Axcess, QuickBooks, SafeSend, Bill.com, Excel, Canopy, and Microsoft 365.
