Lilly Immunology Corporate Affairs is a communications team embedded within Lilly Immunology to lead its external and internal communications efforts, working with cross-functional partners across the enterprise.
Position Description
The Senior Director, Immunology Corporate Affairs, is a critical member of the Global Immunology Communications team working closely with Corporate Affairs colleagues, Corporate Communications, Advocacy, Marketing, Medical, Regulatory, Legal, Affiliates, Investor Relations, and others to drive business impact.
With the potential for multiple product targets and new area expansions in Immunology, this role is pivotal in building our presence so we can reach as many patients as possible and to position Lilly Immunology as a leader, ensuring our medicines and portfolio stand out. This role is focused on driving the internal and external communications strategy for the immunology portfolio and rheumatology pipeline.
The ideal candidate brings clarity to the complex, thrives in a fast-paced environment and is a biopharmaceutical communications strategist with a consistent track record in leading the creation and execution of breakthrough, industry-leading communications activations that elevate business impact. This position will report to the Associate Vice President, Corporate Affairs, Lilly Immunology.
Primary Areas Of Responsibility Include
- Strategy and Collaboration:
- Partner with cross-functional enterprise-wide colleagues (corporate affairs peers, advocacy, commercial, marketing, medical, publications, regulatory, legal, global affiliates, etc.) to define and deliver insight-driven external communications strategies across the Immunology business, portfolio and pipeline – including scientific data and regulatory achievements, as well as creative brand and disease state activations that tap into culture to drive earned media as part of a broader PESO approach.
- Help foster a culture of creativity, innovation and continuous improvement across the team.
- Bring deep authority in the evolving media and cultural landscape; role will leverage that knowledge to help upskill the team and drive bold communication activations.
- Execution and Business Impact:
- Lead day-to-day public relations activities of assigned portfolio and pipeline, including direction of a PR agency of record, interaction with media and other key external collaborators and thought leaders.
- Implement communication tactics that influence external audiences (customers, key environmental influencers, advocates, media and caregivers/consumers) and advance business objectives via communications, social and digital media efforts, and earned/owned/paid media strategy and execution.
- Develop external communications materials to support business priorities, including but not limited portfolio and brand narratives, proactive and reactive messaging and media materials. press releases, standby statements, videos, etc.
- Activate and lead story-mining efforts to drive bold patient-centric storytelling
- Create and implement proactive executive visibility strategy for Immunology leadership.
- Support product/program related employee engagement strategies and execution
- Partner with corporate communications colleagues to protect our brand and products through agile issues management.
- Monitor and analyze performance metrics to continuously optimize communications strategies and tactics across workstreams.
- Assist with other communications projects as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, or related field
- Pharmaceutical or healthcare product and corporate communications experience and expertise a must
- 10+ years of external communications experience within a public relations agency, including in a strategic development role
- Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this position
Required Skills/Preferences
- Demonstrated experience developing and executing bold cross-channel communications strategies (including paid, earned, owned and shared) and essential communication plans
- Ability to understand the business need and use communication to drive the business forward
- Experience collaborating with global and cross-functional teams across a matrixed organization, establishing strong working relationships
- Experience interacting with and providing appropriate communications counsel and support to senior leaders
- Expertise working cross-functionally as well as demonstrated success leading high performance teams
- Able to influence others; comfortable and confident in speaking up to ensure best possible narratives and business impact
- Strong strategic problem-solving and relationship building skills, with experience in project management
- Experience creating and executing communications strategies and plans for highly sensitive information and crisis communications
- Strong background in media relations, including experience working and interacting with reporters
- Outstanding oral and writing skills, and ability to translate complex messages, data and scientific content into clear, concise, compelling communications for laypeople, HCP and consumer audiences
- Understanding of traditional and social media landscapes and how to use various channels to improve impact
- Extreme learning agility and multi-tasking capabilities. Be proficient in balancing many projects at once in a fast-paced environment with very tight deadlines
- Ability to prioritize and make good trade-off decisions
- Meticulous and exacting attention to detail, adept at grasping the big picture, and skilled at connecting all the dots in between

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is
$150,000 – $220,000
Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
