High quality commercial master data streamlines downstream process execution, reduces compliance risk, and reduces costs by eliminating rework. It enables analytics, benchmarking and comparison analysis across core enterprise dimensions and unlocks insights.

Reporting to the Manager, Commercial Transformation, you will contribute to the following:

Data Stewardship and Data Governance

  • Act as the Steward of the Commercial Master Data Strategy and Roadmap.
  • Contribute to building up capability for the provisioning of data stewardship services for select commercial master data objects under our remit. This includes being responsible for data standards and ensuring data quality and compliance.

Product Ownership

  • Act as the Product Owner for master data solutions forming part of our active data governance framework. Improve existing solutions and lead the development of new solutions.
  • Drive integration of master data from recognised sources-of-truth to downstream Commercial applications and systems, using consistent integration patterns and approaches.

Business Process Ownership

  • Develop, maintain and optimise master data related business processes relating to select commercial master data objects under our remit.

Advisory and Quality Assurance

  • Provide advisory and quality assurance services to projects and initiatives needing to establish or consume commercial master data.

Drive improvement

  • Pro-actively seek out improvement opportunities and ways to streamline our processes, not only in our direct team but across our extended network of internal partners.
  • Table proposals for improvements, discuss these with leadership and actively contribute and prioritise the team’s backlog.

Data Analysis and Design

  • Profile data sets, look for patterns, and perform root cause analysis using data-driven approaches.
  • Design data models, data architectures, and processes that align with business needs and data strategy.

Stakeholder Management

  • Contribute to and lead engagements with Commercial Master Data Community of Practice (CoP) members to drive consensus and decision making on master data related improvement and definition work.
  • Socialise and seek endorsement of key design decisions to relevant senior leadership governance committees.

Leadership

  • Provide direct line leadership responsibilities to team members located in multiple Commercial hub locations.
  • Manage relationships with partner offshore development and support teams, who play a key role in enabling and sustaining our data solutions.

About You

  • University degree in either a technical or commercial discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in data design, data engineering, or data delivery roles.
  • Demonstrated experience in master data management (MDM), or exposure and understanding of master data and data quality (DQ) concepts.
  • Demonstrated functional experience aligned to the GPO such as sales and distribution, contract to cash or logistics, or other commercial-related disciplines such as procurement.
  • Demonstrated experience with ERP systems, specifically SAP ECC or SAP S/4 HANA.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading design discussions and reaching consensus amongst diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of relational database concepts and data modeling, including database management platforms such as SQL Server.
  • Demonstrated skills in analytical and information management analysis, data interpretation, and problem-solving ability, including:
    • Data querying skills using advanced analytics toolsets such as SQL.
    • Exposure to BI tools such as Power BI.
  • Ability to contribute to strategy work and senior leadership communications.
  • Fluent in French and English, both written and spoken. Rio Tinto is a global company and the duties of this position require daily collaboration with colleagues, teams or partners based outside Quebec.
