Job Description

Are you an experienced leader in project management and governance looking to shape and drive the future of a growing portfolio? We are seeking a visionary Head of Projects Portfolio & Governance to oversee strategic initiatives, improve governance frameworks, and ensure successful project delivery within Downer Digital team in alignment with our technology strategy. This role can be based in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane with Hybrid working arrangements available.

Responsibilities

The Head of Projects Portfolio and Governance is responsible for overseeing the strategic planning and growth of a portfolio of projects within Downer Digital. This role plays a critical role in driving strategic growth and success across a portfolio of initiatives, ensuring alignment with organisational goals, maximising value delivery and continually optimising our portfolio. This includes:

  • Managing the activities and initiatives of the Portfolio Planning and Management function within Downer Digital in collaboration with Business Units and the transformation office
  • Managing and facilitating portfolio prioritisation, planning forums and other Dower Digital governance boards as it relates to portfolio management and design
  • Facilitating the execution of strategic decision making and support execution of strategic initiatives in relation the Downer Digital Projects Portfolio
  • Governing end-to-end projects/programs planning and delivery in line with agile ways of working and best practice methodology
  • Supporting maintenance of a single-source visibility and pipeline of all initiatives to maintain data integrity and promote effective strategic planning
  • Being accountable for the enterprise value and benefit tracking methodology
  • Achieving value for money savings and efficiency gains from project rationalisation.
  • Liaising with the Downer Digital Leaders and other key Downer stakeholders to provide input on the enterprise demand and resource profile

Skills And Experience

  • Proven experience in Portfolio Planning & Management, 10+ years in a similar role and industry.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing technology strategy, project management methodology including agile ways of working.
  • Extensive experience in the transformation/Corporate Strategy sphere working at a Senior / Supervisory level.
  • Expert understanding of the commercial and planning requirements of a large digital organisation.
  • Background in financial planning at a project portfolio level.
  • Proven ability to work in Finance and/or large PMO teams with experience implementing robust processes.
  • Experience assisting projects and / or proven successful performance in running scheduling, resource, or demand functions for multi-faceted, multi-year streams of work.
  • Demonstrated aptitude in handling large sets of data for statistical analysis and forecast trends to identify turning points in resource capacity and demand.
  • Strong knowledge Project Management Office activities including status reporting, benefits tracking, dependencies and sequencing.
  • Excellent project management skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and align readiness and training efforts with organisational goals.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt strategies based on feedback and changing circumstances.
  • Advanced interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on building relationships and fostering a positive learning environment.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications, preferably at a post graduate level in Information Technology, Computer Science, Commer, Management and/or Business and/or related area
  • Accredited in recognised Project, Program, and Portfolio Management methodologies (e.g. Prince2, Agile)
