Position Summary

CVS Health is seeking a visionary and results-oriented Executive Director, Infrastructure Solution Engineering to lead a critical function focused on proactively solving complex business problems through the strategic application of infrastructure, cloud technologies, and cutting-edge AI/ML capabilities. This leader will champion a product-centric mindset within infrastructure, treating engineered solutions as valuable offerings that address specific business needs and drive tangible outcomes.

The Executive Director will be responsible for building and leading a high-performing team of solution engineers who will design, develop, and maintain a robust library of standardized and customizable infrastructure solutions. This role demands a deep understanding of cloud platforms (Azure, Google Cloud Platform, AWS), a strong grasp of AI and Machine Learning principles and their infrastructure implications, and a proven ability to translate business requirements into scalable and reliable technical solutions. This leader will act as a service/solution provider, proactively engaging with business stakeholders to understand their challenges and delivering impactful solutions from their engineered offerings portfolio.

  • This position is open to multiple CVS locations for hybrid work model.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Vision: Develop and articulate a clear vision and strategy for Infrastructure Solution Engineering, aligning it with CVS Health’s overall business objectives and technology roadmap. Drive the adoption of a product mindset within the infrastructure organization.
  • Product Management for Infrastructure: Define, prioritize, and manage a portfolio of reusable infrastructure solutions and services, treating them as internal “products” with defined value propositions, roadmaps, and lifecycle management.
  • Business Problem Solving: Proactively engage with business stakeholders across various functions to understand their pain points and strategic initiatives. Translate business needs into well-defined infrastructure solution requirements.
  • Service Delivery Model: Establish and refine a “service provider” model for the Infrastructure Solution Engineering team, ensuring clear service catalogs, SLAs, and effective communication channels with business partners.
  • AI/ML Infrastructure Expertise: Drive the strategic integration of AI and Machine Learning infrastructure solutions, ensuring scalability, performance, and security for AI/ML workloads across the organization. Stay abreast of the latest advancements in AI/ML infrastructure and identify opportunities for adoption.
  • Cloud Strategy & Execution: Leverage deep expertise in Azure, Google Cloud Platform, and AWS to architect and engineer cloud-native infrastructure solutions that are cost-effective, resilient, and secure. Define and enforce cloud adoption best practices and standards.
  • Solution Engineering & Architecture: Lead the design and development of standardized and customizable infrastructure solutions, ensuring they are well-documented, easily consumable, and meet performance, security, and compliance requirements.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of infrastructure solution engineers and architects. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Stakeholder Management: Effectively communicate and collaborate with senior leadership, business stakeholders, and other technology teams to ensure alignment on priorities and delivery of impactful solutions.
  • Innovation & Technology Scouting: Continuously evaluate emerging technologies and trends, particularly in cloud, AI/ML, and infrastructure automation, to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement.
  • Budget & Resource Management: Manage the budget and resources for the Infrastructure Solution Engineering team effectively, ensuring optimal utilization and return on investment.

Required Qualifications

  • 15+ years of overall experience in IT or related field.
  • 12+ years of progressive experience in infrastructure engineering, architecture, and/or cloud computing.
  • 10+ years of experience with following:
    • Proven experience leading and managing high-performing technical teams.
    • Deep and demonstrable understanding of cloud platforms (Azure, Google Cloud Platform, AWS) and their core services.
    • Significant experience architecting and implementing infrastructure solutions with a strong emphasis on scalability, reliability, and security.
    • Strong understanding of AI and Machine Learning principles and the underlying infrastructure requirements for supporting AI/ML workloads (e.g., GPU compute, data pipelines, model deployment).
    • Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions and articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
    • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a proven ability to think strategically and execute tactically.
    • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
    • Experience with infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools and automation frameworks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience3 in a highly regulated industry, such as healthcare or finance.
  • Experience with product management methodologies and tools.
  • Familiarity with data science platforms and tools.
  • Certifications in relevant cloud platforms (e.g., Azure Solutions Architect Expert, AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional, Google Cloud Certified – Professional Cloud Architect).
  • Experience with agile development methodologies.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field required
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field preferred

Pay Range

The Typical Pay Range For This Role Is

$175,100.00 – $334,750.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
