Director of Security

DAYS/HOURS: 40 hours, Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. However, this position will require appropriate level of presence and leadership for 24/7 operations and must be able to respond to emergencies during non-work hours. This position is essential in the event of an emergency.

LOCATION: 444 Harrison Ave., Boston and other locations as needed within the Boston area. This position works primarily on site at Pine Street Inn’s various program locations, with limited remote work under PSI’S remote work policy.

Position Summary

Pine Street Inn’s Director of Security directs the development, implementation and evaluation of an agency-wide security plan and efforts to ensure the safety of staff, guests, volunteers, neighbors, and the security of all Pine Street facilities. The individual will be highly self-motivated, possess excellent communications skills, capable of developing and drafting new policies, procedures, and plans. This position requires a great deal of tact and diplomacy, as well as a high degree of professional ethics, sensitivity to hardship and extreme sensitivity to confidential data and delicate personnel issues.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/TRAINING (required)

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience required (6+ more years leading Security Operations in a similarly sized organization and or 6+ years of Law Enforcement)
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet all PSI safe driver criteria

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Training in trauma-informed care, crisis prevention and harm reduction
  • Experience working with homeless populations
  • Experience in analyzing and mitigating security risks for large/complex institutions and facilities
  • Professional security certifications such as Physical Security Professional (PSP) and/or Certified Protection Professional (CPP) or other relevant certifications from accredited institutions
  • Bilingual in Spanish

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE (required)

  • Minimum of 6+ years of law enforcement or Security experience with some of those years at the management level and/or Field Training Officer (FTO)
  • Evidence of successful collaborations with metropolitan Police departments, probation, corrections, and other law enforcement and community advocates
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft suite of programs and ability to learn new application and software
  • Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, and executive orders
  • Knowledge of relevant policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective security operations for the protection of people and property
  • Successful experience leading broad organizational change. Experience effectively preparing for and guiding teams through broad organizational changes. Experience in leading the translation of broad organizational change strategies into specific directions and goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage organization-wide projects, including proven ability to negotiate conflicting priorities, bring teams together, and motivate others
  • Must be highly experienced in de-escalation techniques and have extensive knowledge of Trauma Informed Care principles
  • Trainer-level knowledge of nonviolent crisis intervention techniques and/or Crisis Prevention Institute methods
