Director of Commercial Construction Project Management

About The Role

We are looking for a dynamic and experienced individual to lead our project management team and oversee the construction of all commercial interior projects from inception to completion. This role is essential in delivering productive and connected workplaces for businesses globally. You will ensure that all projects meet quality, schedule, contractual, and budget goals while fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

In this position, you will manage internal and external project communications, track construction schedules, and analyze costs to ensure project managers meet budgetary goals. You will also build and maintain key relationships with general contractors, vendor partners, and other stakeholders to achieve strategic objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the overall financial performance of the project portfolio through project management team members.
  • Ensure all project openings are on schedule by overseeing design, permitting, and construction phases.
  • Develop construction business strategies for significant and scalable growth, ensuring fiduciary, schedule, and quality standards are consistently met.
  • Navigate constructability reviews, provide design or value engineering options, and develop risk mitigation or contingency plans.
  • Oversee all projects, including handoff from the real estate department, scheduling, budget forecasting, and coordination with subcontractors, vendors, and consultants.
  • Equip the project management team with tools to run efficiently in a fast-paced environment, including software programs and standard operating procedures.
  • Set and report on key OKRs and KPIs for the project management team, leveraging project data to highlight trends and opportunities.
  • Develop team and cross-functional initiatives that reinforce business objectives.
  • Source and manage national partners and vendors, from bulk materials to General Contractors.
  • Interact regularly with the Head of Construction and company executives to ensure objectives are met.
  • Build and maintain key cross-functional relationships, collaborating strongly with stakeholders to drive outcomes.
  • Track performance, train, coach, and motivate direct reports.
  • Work closely with the real estate department on risks and tradeoffs during negotiations and budgeting exercises.
  • Negotiate, review, and approve contracts related to lease reviews and vendor contracts.
  • Demonstrate risk management expertise to anticipate downstream effects of decisions and ensure contingencies are made.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve processes and workflows for enhanced effectiveness.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience managing commercial interior, retail, or hospitality construction projects.
  • Minimum of 10 years in Sr. Project Manager or Contract Executive roles at a General Contractor firm, with at least 2 years in a Director capacity.
  • Experience managing a portfolio of over 20 active projects exceeding $100M in total capex.
  • 3+ years of experience managing a team of 3+ project managers.
  • Proven track record of delivering construction projects on time and within budget.
  • Highly effective communicator and presenter, organized, and reliable.
  • Expert in negotiating vendor contracts and lease agreements.
  • Strong knowledge of design, construction methods, and MEP systems.
  • Proficient in cost estimation, negotiating, and preparing bids.
  • Construction Management or Engineering degree from an accredited institution.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, and Adobe Suite.

  • Understanding of contract delivery models, including Design Build and Guaranteed Maximum Price.
  • Ability to work within lean construction methodologies and provide risk management expertise.
  • Excellent communication skills for presentations, motivation, and field presence.
  • Strong organization and planning skills to manage multiple objectives.
  • Decision-making capabilities under tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to lead productive meetings.
  • Strong culture-builder and mentor for direct reports.

Compensation

The annual base compensation for this role ranges from (160,000 to )200,000, based on factors including work experience, job-related knowledge, and skills. Eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance.
