The Opportunity

A Chief Risk Officer (CRO) is the executive accountable for enabling the efficient and effective governance of significant risks, and related opportunities to a business and its various segments.

We are looking for someone with:

  • 15+ years of risk management experience in matters of increasing complexity
  • Hold a minimum bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Highly developed financial acumen and business orientation
  • Good understanding of products developed and marketed in Asia and working knowledge of capital market instruments available in Asia and risk mitigation/hedging techniques preferred.
  • Solid working knowledge of enterprise risk management frameworks and processes
  • Proven leadership skills, along with strong process and project management capabilities and experience
  • Strong communication skills, including ability to translate complex issues into fundamental concepts
  • Highly effective influencing skills
  • Strong relationship building skills to build effective working relationships with divisional and corporate leaders
  • High level of conceptual skills and an ability to operate strategically to minimize risks and leverage opportunities, but with an ability and willingness to drill down into detail, with high level of attention as needed
  • Creative problem solving and the ability to motivate others to implement new solutions
  • Highly literates for office system and computerized devices.
  • Talent with Good Command in English

On the job you will:

  • Promote a healthy risk culture across the country.
  • Provide oversight of risk management policies, processes and systems to facilitate the country’s operation within Enterprise Risk Management Framework and all global risk policies, covering strategic, market, credit, liquidity, insurance and operational risks.
  • Collaborate with business units and other functional teams to identify, measure, control and report on the country’s risk exposures, ensuring risks are managed within the country’s risk appetite and risk limits.
  • Facilitate the setting of the country risk appetite in conjunction with the Asia Division CRO, and the RMC, and ensure alignment of risk appetite with the overall strategic plan.
  • Provide thought leadership on evolving risks facing the country and risk mitigation strategies.
  • In collaboration with Asia Division Risk Management, establish and maintain a risk reporting framework that allows the CRO to offer objective reporting to the Asia Division Chief Risk Officer and RMC.
  • Report to the RMC on items described within this mandate, ensuring that they are appropriately: i) informed of the country’s material risk positions and risk mitigation programs; ii) informed of the level of compliance with risk policies, risk appetite and limits, and iii) provided an assessment on the effectiveness of the country’s risk management practices.
  • Provide leadership and support to risk owners to ensure that MFC’s Enterprise Risk Management Framework is effectively implemented within each jurisdiction and satisfy local board and regulatory requirements around risk governance.
  • Facilitate local regulatory and industry risk framework changes.
