Here’s a Summary Of Responsibilities

The Associate Director, Internally Managed Sports (IMS) will oversee and manage team logistics and operations, and the implementation of sport-specific projects and activities for assigned internally managed sports requiring USOPC support. These scenarios include 1) when National Governing Bodies (NGBs) fail to meet certification standards, 2) NGBs opt to relinquish their status as an NGB, 3) new sports are added to the Olympic and/or Paralympic program and do not have operational NGBs yet, and 4) NGBs are in distress and require USOPC assistance in a particular operational area. The Associate Director is responsible for overseeing relevant sport programming, including the contractors and volunteers necessary to implement the sports’ programs. In collaboration with other IMS program staff, the Associate Director will contribute to high performance planning and budget management. The Associate Director will promote and support the Olympic & Paralympic movements and contribute to overall planning, sport planning, and implementation of IMS team priorities.

  • Manage the operations and logistics for designated IMS sport activities for athletes and staff as outlined in the Athlete and Sport Program Plan, including travel coordination, event registration, staff accreditation, housing and accommodations, and ground transportation.
  • Ensure communication with national team athletes, coaches, and the broader athlete pool, including the development of written performance plans, team selection procedures, and similar documents.
  • Manage team administration processes and track athlete data for IF annual licensing, direct athlete support, EAHI, Games long lists, and personal performance plan competition results.
  • Oversee the contract negotiations for new and existing contracted staff support to ensure projects are staffed based on sport priorities and available resources.
  • Contribute to the development, editing, and implementation of team selection procedures for assigned sports as applicable.
  • In collaboration with Olympic and Paralympic performance staff, contribute to the athlete identification and development strategy. Create and oversee the implementation of IMS-specific programs within that strategy and utilizing available USOPC resources and partnerships with other organizations.
  • In collaboration with other IMS program staff and department leadership, foster strong communication and a positive working relationship with IFs and the IOC/IPC.
  • Serve as project manager for IMS events and other designated sport programs. Collaborate with other USOPC departments/divisions and external partner organizations, including NGBs to develop, plan, and execute all aspects of each event and/or program, including strategizing and securing venue and host contracts and filling key leadership roles during the planning and execution of such competitions.
  • Provide direction and support to contractors and volunteers necessary to execute events and implement sport programs.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with USOPC and NGB staff, local sport programs, other local partners, and others in and outside of the sport community as advantageous to the program.
  • Maintain a master calendar for all assigned sport events, including but not limited to, creating and posting new events; ensuring that event information is complete, accurate, and current; and modifying or cancelling event information as necessary.
  • In collaboration with the Senior Director, manage the IMS budget, ensuring that financial resources are used responsibly and reported accurately in USOPC systems.
  • Contribute to overall planning and the sport development planning of the IMS department. Take leadership in developing and delivering on sport performance initiatives with assigned sports, NGBs, and partner programs.
  • Perform key Games role assignments as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Here are the skills and experience you’ll need to be effective:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • 6+ years of experience with Olympic or Paralympic sport programs including event operations, logistics, or team management
  • -OR- equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proven ability to promote sport performance
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, especially with athletes
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff and stakeholder groups

  • Hiring pay range: $76,178- $85,000 Per year
  • This Full-Time, Temporary position is intended to work 40 hours per week.
