Purpose
University Housing and Dining (UHD) at the University of Texas at Austin is looking for an Assistant Director of Digital Strategy and Content to assist in developing the department’s digital content strategy, manage the social media team, and oversee the planning, management, and execution of content and engagement strategies for the department’s various social media channels. This role manages the development of highly creative content and campaigns, enhancing brand awareness, increasing engagement, and driving communication efforts that align with the department’s and university’s mission, vision, and values. The Assistant Director of Digital Strategy and Content will also help oversee digital content and brand asset management strategy.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and execute the digital content and social media strategy that drives UHD’s strategic goals, strengthens its reputation, and fosters engagement with key audiences, including prospective and current students, parents of our students, faculty, staff, and the external community. Ensure collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to amplify their messages and ensure they align with the University’s social media strategy. Build relationships with influencers and brand advocates to enhance the UHD’s reach and engagement with key audiences.
  • Oversee the social media team, content calendar, and day-to-day social activities, including content creation, curation, scheduling, posting, and community management across major platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, X, and other emerging platforms. Ensure regular, consistent, and engaging content aligned with key departmental initiatives, events, and campaigns. Manage the team in charge of monitoring comments and behaviors to assist in issues management response efforts. Manage the social team’s budget, including paid social advertising campaigns, to ensure the effective use of resources.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop an effective and productive UHD social media team, ensuring high-quality content creation, continuous improvement, and professional development. Oversee and manage the department’s digital media production, ensuring high-quality and consistent media (photography, videography, etc.) production. And other duties as assigned.
  • Oversee and manage the social media analytics. Stay up-to-date on social trends, tools, and best practices to incorporate the latest technologies and strategies into the department’s social media presence. Report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of social media efforts, provide actionable insights, and make data-driven decisions to optimize content and engagement strategies.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • 5 years of experience managing digital media production and social media management in a professional setting.
  • Professional work experience in developing and executing social media strategies and campaigns.
  • Professional work experience with social media platforms, algorithms, and analytics tools.
  • Experience with social media management tools such as Hootsuite, Sprout Social, or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication, writing, and storytelling skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree.
  • 4 or more years of supervisory experience.
  • 6 or more years of experience managing digital media production and social media management in a professional setting.
  • Professional experience managing social media strategy for a major brand.
  • Professional experience producing digital content.
  • Experience in managing and optimizing paid social media campaigns.
  • Experience working at or with media outlets.
  • Experience crafting or pitching stories for content marketing or media placement.
  • Professional experience with photo and video editing tools.
  • Experience working in higher education, nonprofit, or mission-driven organization.
Salary Range
$75,000 + depending on qualifications

Work Shift
  • Monday – Friday, 8:00AM – 5:00PM. Workday and hours are subject to change based on business needs to include nights and weekends.
