Position
As the Director of Design and Accessories, you are a visionary leader with extensive experience in handbag design and a proven ability to conceptualize and build cohesive, brand-aligned product lines. Your energetic and collaborative approach, coupled with strong communication and leadership skills, allows you to thrive in fast-paced environments. You are naturally curious and adaptable, with a passion for inspiring and guiding a team of designers to drive creativity and success.
What You’ll Do
- Interpret and translate the Stoney Clover Lane aesthetic into innovative and trend-forward product designs.
- Collaborate with the founders to define seasonal themes and creative direction.
- Oversee the design and development of handbag collections each season, ensuring a cohesive and commercially viable product line.
- Partner with the Product Development team to source and select seasonal materials, including leather and trims.
- Manage the end-to-end design process, including market research, mood board creation, sketching, spec development, and product functionality.
- Utilize both hand sketching and digital sketch software to develop and refine designs.
- Research global market trends, emerging materials, and innovative techniques to inform product strategy.
- Present new product ideas, advocating for their adoption and contributing to the growth of the brand’s accessory division.
- Make strategic recommendations on seasonal themes, line edits, and new product concepts.
- Ensure designs align with market trends, brand identity, and business objectives, incorporating international and domestic fashion influences to meet customer demands.
- Work with multiple licensors, managing complex, dynamic relationships to ensure successful collaborations.
- Own packaging design and development, including for collaborations.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure design consistency across categories. Lead seasonal accessory themes and communicate any necessary updates effectively.
- Oversee the technical design process, ensuring a smooth transition from concept to production.
- Experience with pattern design and ability to show samples prior to hire.
- Take ownership of leather selection and material specifications, maintaining brand quality and craftsmanship.
- Identify and implement process improvements to optimize workflow efficiency.
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing design team, fostering creativity and professional growth.
- Customizing and designing new patterns for product development.
You’ll Need To Have
- 12+ years of handbag design experience.
- Formal design education/training.
- Expert-level design and conceptual skills specific to handbags.
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
- Strong ability to multi-task and manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- The ability to set a creative vision and inspire new ideas and design concepts.
- Exceptional organizational, time management, communication, and presentation skills.
- In-depth knowledge of silhouettes, fabrications, colorways, construction techniques, leather, and trim.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Will need to provide samples of patterns.

- Experience working directly with factories to communicate design and development need.
