Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Director – Athletics / Physical Education Building, the Assistant Director – Athletics will assist in overseeing and administering student focused services within the department of athletics, with the focus on compliance, student-athletes academic support, and student-athlete development.

Supervisory Role
Oral and written instructions are received from the Director – Athletics / Physical Education Building or designee. The Assistant Director – Athletics may supervise professional, support staff, coaches, and student workers.

Duties & Responsibilities
1. Coordinate and oversee the Student-Athlete Academic Monitoring program.
2. Implement and monitor academic support services to student-athletes at the College. Collaborate with coaches, faculty members, campus support services and academic advisors to ensure student-athletes are in compliance with NJCAA and Essex County College academic standards.
3. Coordinate and monitor student-athlete study hall and progress report requirements, reporting any policy violations to the Director and respective coaches.
4. Monitor student-athlete academic progress, coordinating student-athlete meetings and on-campus tutoring programs to increase departmental rates of retention, graduation, and transfer-out rates.
5. Assist in supervising the student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), as well as assisting in the coordination and monitoring of community service, outreach, and volunteer opportunities.
6. Coordinate and monitor all aspects of NJCAA Student-Athlete Eligibility requirements and NJCAA Letter of Intent system to ensure compliance with policies and deadlines.
7. Serve has the site administrator for sports and athletic contests in the absence of, or as coordinated by the Director.
8. Assist the Director in the coordinating and conducting student-athlete orientations, as well as rules education for staff and students.
9. Act as the liaison between the Athletic Department and Bursar Office to monitor the proper application of student-athlete scholarship dollars and tuition waivers.
10. Under the direction of the Director of Athletics, develop and coordinate out of the classroom programming series that focus on the holistic development of student-athletes.
11. Assist in the creation, evaluation, and monitoring the compliance of departmental policies and procedures, staff handbooks, and student-athlete handbooks.
12. Maintain strict confidentiality and security of student, staff, and client records.
13. Prepare and deliver routine, special and ancillary reports in written and/or oral format as required.
14. Perform other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience (number of years), Knowledge and/or Abilities
1. Master’s Degree or five years of relevant and related experience, preferably within an Athletics Department or student athlete support.
2. Experience in sports, recreation and physical education management.
3. Demonstrated ability to work with, exhibit and stress professionalism and good sportsmanship to student-athletes, coaching staff, competitors, and college personnel.
4. Experience working effectively with diverse academic, staff and student populations.
5. Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
6. Excellent interpersonal skills.
7. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
8. Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.

Education Requirements
Master’s Degree

Licenses and Certifications (including e.g., CPR, first aid, driver’s license, etc.)
