How You’ll Contribute…

You will grow the Education Sector business at Boyd Jones. This leader in Education Business Development will be responsible for the business development and preconstruction planning for PreK-12 Education in Nebraska and Western Iowa. The ideal candidate will have a construction, project management, or education background with an understanding of construction methodologies in the context of school construction projects. This includes prospecting, qualifying, directing the team through the pursuit and proposal development process, presenting to prospective clients, facilitation of meetings, and closing sales for the Education Group.

  • Maintain an active presence in the PreK-12 community and professional organizations; develops and maintains a strong local/regional network to support ongoing sales efforts
  • Support pre-bond and preconstruction planning by coordinating early-stage project assessments, helping school districts identify needs and ensuring alignment with construction capabilities and budget consideration
  • Collaborate with project teams on the technical aspects of construction, working alongside architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure feasibility and accuracy of proposals and plans.
  • Attend trade shows, conferences, and other association meetings to stay in tune with market conditions and trends, competition, and establish relationships with clients and prospects
  • Present, promote, and sell Boyd Jones services using compelling messaging based on data and analysis
  • Continually work to understand the competitive environment for PreK-12 projects and Boyd Jones’ competitive advantage
  • Learn and understand aspects of school finance, political trends, community engagement, construction methods, and state legislation that impact school construction projects
  • Identify, pursue, and develop new business opportunities and develop positioning plans to win work
  • Direct collection & analysis of data, utilizing data to support business decisions
  • Collaborate with marketing, graphic design, and communications team to facilitate proposal and presentation development when acting as lead on the pursuit
  • Input and maintain CRM data for projects when acting as the pursuit lead
  • Learn, execute, and enhance Boyd Jones’ strategy and approach to the PreK-12 market – identify new strategies, service opportunities, thought leadership, and value-add content
  • Use creative strategies to establish, develop, and maintain successful long-term relationships with clients and partners
  • Ensure continuous enhancement of the Boyd Jones brand
  • Perform other duties as required and assigned

What You’ll Bring…

  • 3-5 years of experience in construction management, architecture or pre-construction roles, preferably in the PreK-12 Education sector. Relevant experience in education will be considered.
  • Experience and strong network in the PreK-12 Education market desired
  • Proven experience developing business relationships at all levels of management that produce results
  • Knowledge and skills in how to successfully influence and persuade others by understanding their individual needs, motivations, and goals are essential
  • Ability to challenge conventional thinking, solve problems, and develop creative solutions to assist our clients in fulfilling their mission
  • Ability to maximize profitability and generate future work through building relationships
  • Ability to participate in after-hours networking or similar events/meetings to enhance business relationships
  • Ability to travel 50% of the time throughout Nebraska to meet with clients, visit project sites, attend necessary public meetings, trade shows or conferences, etc.
