About the Roles

A restructure of the leadership and Mental Health & Addictions Acute and Hospital portfolio of services at Counties Manukau has resulted in the creation of two new portfolios, each with its own dedicated Clinical Head and Service Manager roles:

  • Acute Services portfolio
  • Acute Inpatient Unit portfolio (Tiaho Mai)

We are now seeking a Clinical Head to lead the Acute Services Portfolio working in partnership with the Acute Services Service Manager and in collaboration with the Clinical Head and Service Manager for the Acute Inpatient Unit (Tiaho Mai) and wider multidisciplinary leadership team.

You will be a member of the Mental Health & Addictions Leadership team, accountable to the Clinical Director. Working alongside other Clinical Heads, Leads, Cultural and Professional leaders and the Lived Experience workforce, you will contribute to the development and delivery of clinical service plans and achievement of the Mental Health and Addictions Health targets.

Acute Services Portfolio – Acute Services consists of the following multidisciplinary teams: Intake and Acute Assessment (including staff who work in the Middlemore Hospital Emergency Department), Referral Management Service, Home Based Treatment and Tamaki Oranga Recovery Centre, a 20 bed, all male inpatient rehabilitation unit in Otara. These services work in close partnership with the adult community teams, NGO partners and primary care providers. They strive to deliver care that is accessible, compassionate and culturally responsive to the needs of our South Auckland communities.

About you

You will have clinical leadership experience, a focus on quality, equity and service improvement and a strong commitment to improving the experience for tangata whaiora and whaanau who access our services. You will also have:

  • At least five years’ clinical experience as a Consultant Psychiatrist
  • An advanced body of knowledge and expertise related to speciality
  • An understanding of the complexity of the multi-disciplinary environment and particularly the importance of effective clinical leadership and the SMO – Manager relationship
  • Commitment to helping all tangata whaiora achieve equitable health outcomes
  • Highly developed communication, listening and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to inspire and motivate others to commit to and work towards the organisational / service goals

All applicants MUST have or be eligible for specialist (or locum tenens) registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand in a Psychiatry vocational scope of practice
